Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Mark of Athena
“The only thing worse than a boy who hates you: is a boy who loves you” this is the quote i used for my make art happen project. This quote by Markus Zusak from the Book Thief inspired me to create my art piece. My art piece has many bright colors leading you and into the center that has a red heart. The bright colors make the quote ironic because, the quote is from a dark time with a deep meaning

In school we were introduced to the topic of censorship, and banned books. We talked about them what it meant and we all read a challenged book. I read the book Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret by Judy Blume. Through the book the main character Margaret Simon. and twelve year old, moved to New Jersey; and had met three girls. Together they were the Four PTS’s. These girls are confronted with the idea of puberty.
The ideas in this book are definitely for a mature audience, but should it be banned? I disagree with banning books, anyone should be able to read any book they wish to. If there is a book a child should not read their parents should be responsible for what they do. This book has material on the process of becoming a women, for some parents this could be a problem, but the book has a very enjoyable story about a young girl, facing problems that every female will eventually face. Margaret also faces the trouble of deciding a religion, her parents and jewish and christian, leaving her with no religion. With the pressure for her grandparents she has trouble deciding. The topic of facing this dilemma could be a topic sensitive to some families, should that mean this book should be taken away from everyone? This book was a wonderful thing to read in and out of school, this book has taught me valuable lessons. Are You There God, It Me Margaret is a great book and should not be banned. Destruction’s path in almost at it’s destination. Being a human, you can do things that you never thought were able to happen. Just imagine a world where humans weren’t the dominate species. There's a whole world where they think of you as incapable, dumb, normal, ordinary. This is the average life of Harry Potter, Harry has captured the hearts of millions, his determination and spirit made him even more lovable, but he’s not the only one who has this effect on people. Percy Jackson may seem like he should be the best, unfortunately not everyone can be the best but Percy’s heroic actions make him the hero you would think he is. If you liked the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows then you should read The Mark of Athena.
Myths, magic, madness, are all what you will think is in the air after reading these books. Both books bring a whole new world to life that you may never know if they are real or not. In The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan, the world of mythology is brought to a whole new level with the introduction of the Romans and their versions of the Gods. “The warship descended through the clouds, but Annabeth couldn’t stop second-guessing herself. What if this was a bad idea? What if the Romans panicked and attacked them on sight?”(Riordan,4) The book, like most others in this series experiences many gods, demigods, and many other creatures along the way. In the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rolling captured the fear and hearts of many people through the series with Harry and his adventures with his close friends. In this last book the end could becoming, or a brand new beginning for not only wizards, the whole world. These stories both have a character who everyone thinks is their salvation from these evil characters trying to take over. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Harry is the one chance of bringing down Voldemort. He and his friends Ron and Hermione help Harry find Horcruxes. Harry Potter grew up in our world, the human world, without any knowledge of what he was capable of. Harry Potter was a legend from when he was young. This legend lead him to where he was in the last book of the series facing the biggest challenge ever. Harry Potter doesn't have any special powers, he has his wand and his friends. What sets him apart if his determination, and revenge. Anthropocentric may come to your mind, but instead of it being all men, it's centered around one. In Rick Riordan’s third book of the series the book changes between viewpoints of characters but is still mostly centered around one hero, Percy Jackson. Percy was born into the human world, with being a son of one of the three eldest gods, and a prophet written about him, he was highly thought of. “ Piper hadn't studies him up closes before. After hearing so much at Camp Half-Blood about Percy Jackson this and Percy Jackson that, she thought he looked… well, unimpressive, especially next to Jason. Percy was more slender, about an inch shorter, with slightly longer, much darker hair.”(Riordan,120). With himself and three other demigods they solve one problem at a time, Percy is always thought of as a hero but with this new power growing stronger will the son of Poseidon be enough to save the world? Problems, problems problems, that's all that ever occurs in these books. Percy and Harry face problems that threaten all life forms, not just themselves. either it be Gaea wakening, or Lord Voldemort growing strong both books have a clear problem with hills and small quest within them. Harry’s travels take him to a place filled with Death Eaters, where he must be very careful with his every move, Percy tasks allow him with seven other friends, who all help along the way. The Goddess of Earth, Gaea has almost been arisen by giants, without the demigods to stop her Gaea will take over the world. Lord Voldemort gains full strength and gaining more followers by the day, he split himself into Horcruxes to make you live longer and protect yourself from ever fully being hurt. These seven Horcruxes are spread out all around earth and can be extremely dangerous to get. Percy with seven other demigods are set on a quest stop the giants from awakening Gaea. Gaea is the goddess of the earth, and is also set on the idea of taking over earth. Within this one quest many small problems occur that make your interest level spike up every time you read. “Percy and Jason drew their swords. Piper stood on the road between them, frozen with fear. The power of Gaea was suddenly everywhere. The sunflowers turned to look at them. The wheat bent toward them like a million scythes.”(Riordan,129) Adventurous, inspiring, exciting. These amazing novels have many similarities, as well as differences. The books each tell their own story but will leave you wanting more just the same. If you liked the book Harry Potter and the deathly Hallows by J.K. Rolling then you should read The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. |
